We spoke with a Master Technician at one of the biggest Ford dealerships in the UK and he gave us his top tips and insights into becoming a technician!

  1. Have an interest in the inudstry. Having an interest in the automotive industry and certain vehicles helps you learn and enjoy the job a lot more! I have loved cars since a very young age and I enjoy coming to work, I see it as a hobby and my colleagues do to.
  2.  Be prepared to learn. With this trade you are learning every day on the job and when your training stops this is when you will learn the most! I have been in the industry 25 years and I am still learning every day. The industry is forever changing, especially with the introduction of the electric car and it’s important to keep up to date on this!
  3. Be Adaptable. Every day is different, you have to remember your job role is not just a mechanic. Some days I am a plumber or a upholsterer or even an air conditioning technician! It makes the job exciting and means you are not doing the same thing day in day out.

My job allows me to do what I love! I would strongly recommend becoming a technician to anyone who is interested in the motor trade. You work hard but you are able to reap the rewards of good pay and massive job satisfaction!

If you are looking to start you career or fancy a change of location in the automotive industry please get in touch. We have the job for you!
