Organisation Structure
The General Terminal Team Supervisor reports to the Deputy Port Manager. They are responsible for a team of terminal operatives. When under military command, this post reports to the appointed military supervisor.

A Sponsored Reserve is required to be between minimum and maximum age limits of 18 and 50.

Job Purpose
A General Terminal Supervisor carries out hands on Supervision of mooring duties and cargo movement operations, including loading and unloading and securing of cargo, both civilian and military. In addition this post will be required to carry out various port support functions and maintenance tasks as required. All port operations are dependent upon you maintaining responsibility for high standards of safety at all times for yourself and your teams.

Background

has responsibility to provide a support function which under normal conditions can be performed by a civilian workforce. As a Sponsored Reservist you will be mobilised to deliver military port services whilst under military command. Full support and training will be provided to fulfil the roles and in addition you will be required to obtain qualifications in the relevant trades including NVQ’s.

As a Sponsored Reservist (SR), the job is to provide trained Port Operatives able to carry out the loading/ discharging of vessels on a Global basis.

This post holds the military rank of Sergeant dependent on experience and suitability and is subject to Laws and Instructions relevant to Reserve Service. You will be required to be deployed and work overseas (in locations such as the Falkland Islands)

Main General Terminal Supervisor Duties


·You will be qualified and competent in all the duties required of a General Terminal Operative (See General Terminal Operative Job Description) and in addition will have supervisory skills/experience and qualifications.
·Manage, supervise and brief and ensure that a team of General Terminal Operatives carry out all vessel mooring and cargo handling, stowage and securing activities, including the use of MHE and ships gear/equipment, competently, safely and professionally
·Ensures that all cargo including dangerous goods are handled safely and in accordance with relevant legislation
·Ensure all individuals are qualified to drive the plant and equipment they are assigned to.
·Supervise Reefer operations, including connection, disconnection and monitoring as required
·Ensure that security restrictions are in place at all times
·Supervise and maintain the use of the Bio Wash system, ensuring that the area is kept clean and in good working order at all times
·Ensures all HS&E requirements/ relevant safe working practices are followed at all times and met.
·Carry out and complete and endorse risk assessments and safe systems of work etc.
·Carrying out/supporting oil spill response.
·Carry out all aspects of accident and incident investigations
·Plans and supervises the transfer of cargo between all modes of transport and inter agency liaison
·Prepares pre-stowage plans and produces flow charts
·Ensures that cargo is handled, stowed and secured safely and correctly in line with current legislation
·Plan the use of MHE and resources
·Plan/ supervises the operations of a port office
·Carry out the duties of an appointed person
·Determine the requirements for labour and MHE etc.
·Liaise with vessel masters, port authorities, local security and transport agencies
·Provide the highest levels of customer service at all times
·Complete all relevant documentation as required and within relevant timeframes and standards, including VITAL (or other relevant IT systems) and cargo tallying requirements.
·Contribute as a team member to ensuring the port is a safe working environment
·Comply with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
·Operate communications equipment
·Supervise site RORO Pump House tasks as required and for which trained
·Supervise site support and maintenance tasks as required and for which trained
·Carry out site security duties as required and for which trained
·Supervise/carry out civilian Port Enabling duties/tasks away from SMC Marchwood
·Successfully complete any identified training course deemed necessary for the role.
·Complete reports accurately
·Complete any other tasks commensurate to the role

Additional Sponsored Reserve Sergeant Duties
·Lead, manage and supervise a Port Operator Teams in a military environment.
·Liaise with military authorities/organisations,
·Ensures all safety procedures are in place at all times when establishing and running a beachhead, port etc. including HS&E, damage control, fire- fighting and vessel/land sector defence
·Carry out watch keeping duties, including operating military and civilian communications equipment
·Conduct and report on port and beach reconnaissance
·Carry out stores duties, including cargo handling gear maintenance and record keeping.
·Manage unskilled labour when on detached duties
·Successfully complete all Military Annual Training Tests and any other identified military training courses
